How I Stay Motivated

8/1/15

In a world of late night studying while eating pizza and days of binge atching Parks and Recreations on Netflix it's hard to even think about going to the gym or about eating healthy. Staying motivated is probably the hardest part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For months I struggled with staying committed; I would go to the gym two days a week and continue to eat junk food all week long. Although I'm a lot more motivated + less distracted than I used to be, I'm still not where I want to be. So here are a few things that keep me motivated throughout the week.

1. Surround yourself with like-minded people
Ever heard of the saying "Birds of a feather flock together"? Well that's exactly the case here. Most of my family stays active. We all push each other and encourage one another to stay committed. We go to the gym together, hike together and give each other tips. It's all about supporting one another.

2. Make a workour playlist
Pandora Radio is a useful tool, but I definitely have more energy when "The Night Is Still Young" by Nicki Minaj plays on my playlist. Make a playlist that gets your heart pumping!

3. Try something new
Try out the new Total Body Challenge class or the new Zumba class at your gym. Go for a hike, try something new + change the scenery.

4. Bring a workout buddy
I would never bail out on a friend, so every time a friend asks me to workout with him/her I like to think of it as we're just hanging out. If you're a flaker think of it as a date.

5. Journal your progress
This is the most important. You can't expect to reach your goal in a few months, but you can expect to see small progress or Baby Gains. I look back at my journal entries + am amazed of all the progress I have accomplished. I write everything down like how much I squatted that week, what I ate, but most importantly I journal how I feel about myself, my journey + my progress. I encourage all of you to try it.

I might not be where I want to be but eating healthier + being consistent with my workouts has definitely helped me with my acne, self-esteem, mood and health. Stay consistent + understand that this journey takes time and you WILL get there.
