A morning ritual, or as many of you might call it a morning routine is something you do each morning to help you start the day stress-free. It gives purpose to your mornings and sets the mood for the rest of the day. A morning ritual doesn’t have to take up a lot of time, just a simple 10-minutes will work. The key is to do it first thing in the morning before you decide to do anything else.
There is no “right way” because we all energize in different ways. What is right for one person might not be right for you – and that’s okay! Here are 4 ways to help you start your day in a positive way.
Taking the time to gather your thoughts and feelings on paper not only clears your mind, but it also allows you to look back and keep track of your progress. Journaling can be anything from writing down your to-do list to writing daily affirmations. Something I like to do is list 3 things I am grateful for because it allows me to appreciate the gifts in life.
Going through the motions of a morning yoga routine slowly wakes up the mind and warms up the body. You don’t even have to go to the gym for this. There are a bunch of morning yoga routines on Pinterest to choose from or you could try a daily yoga app or a YouTube video to help guide you through your practice. A 10-minute stretch followed by meditation will surely clear your mind and help you start your day.
If you live with your significant other take some time in the mornings to connect with them. Look into your partner's eyes and say one thing you love about them and have them do the same for you. Something like, “I love the way you care about others,” could help set the tone of your day. And it serves as a perfect reminder as to why you both fell in love with each other.
If you’re the type of person that always has a book on their bedside table then this is the time to devour it. Reading can help calm the mind and keep the brain sharp. I’m the type of person that loves to read self-empowerment books, but whatever genre or book will do the trick. Set a daily timer and take 10-minutes to read every morning, to help clear your mind and get your brain working.
The key to having a productive morning routine is to plan the night before. Pack your lunch and lay out your outfit. That way you’ll have more time to focus on what’s most important and what’s right for you
